Atwick儲(chǔ)氣設(shè)施是在地下1.8千米的巖鹽層建造的9個(gè)鹽穴，具有約3.25億立方米的儲(chǔ)氣能力。氣體輸送到站點(diǎn)，注入到鹽穴中儲(chǔ)存。需要時(shí)，氣體從鹽穴中采出，經(jīng)過干燥處理，然后輸出至國家輸氣系統(tǒng)。英國地質(zhì)調(diào)查所認(rèn)為: “與地上儲(chǔ)罐設(shè)施相比，地下儲(chǔ)氣容量更大、成本更低，若精心建造并監(jiān)控，還可增加安全等級。”
